Why SuperGrader is different from other AI graders

Most AI graders ask a model to decide the grade. SuperGrader asks it only to read — your answer key decides, and you can always check why.

There are a lot of “AI graders” now, and most work the same way: you hand the AI a student’s paper, it decides the grade, and you get a number with a confident explanation. It feels like magic until the first grade you cannot explain to a parent. SuperGrader is built on the opposite instinct — the AI should read the paper, not rule on it — and almost every difference follows from that one choice.

The AI reads; your key decides

In most AI graders the model is the judge: it reads the work and also decides whether it is right. In SuperGrader those are two jobs done by two different things. The AI’s only job is to turn handwriting into text. A deterministic engine then compares that text to your answer key with fixed rules — fractions equal their decimals, units are checked, case means something in chemistry and code. The grade comes from your key and the rules, not from a model’s opinion.

It flags what it cannot read instead of guessing

When a digit is ambiguous, or a student wrote two answers and crossed out neither, most tools pick one and move on. SuperGrader stops and flags it for you, with the reason and the photo of the real work. A guessed score looks finished — which is exactly why it is dangerous. A flag costs you ten seconds and costs no student a grade they did not earn.

Every score is traceable, and consistent

Because the grade comes from rules rather than a mood, the same paper gets the same score every time, and every score traces back to the question it came from. You can see why a mark was given — not a paragraph of AI prose, but the criterion or the key it was measured against. That is the difference between a grade you can defend and one you just have to trust.

You stay in control, and your work stays yours

You confirm the answer key before anything is graded, you decide every flagged question, and any score you change stays changed. Your corrections are never used to train a model, and student work is not anyone’s dataset. The tool does the labour; the judgement stays with the teacher.

Not locked to one format

Bubble-sheet tools need bubble sheets. Essay tools only do essays. SuperGrader grades the paper you already hand out — handwritten or printed, multiple choice or worked math or an essay with a rubric, photographed from your phone or scanned as a PDF. One tool for the class you actually teach, not the format a tool prefers.
